Octane is also seeing some interesting use cases arise, such as a construction company utilizing the usage meter to track employee hours and energy charging companies using the meter for the same purposes. Next, the business aims to introduce new capabilities such as price experimentation based on usage to assist clients in making better pricing decisions for their software, which Khanolkar sees as a challenge. It will create tools for users to test alternative plans against usage data to determine which one works best. We are still in the early innings of consumption-based models, but we see more end users opting to go with an enterprise that wants to let them try out the software and then pay as they go.
